1. Here’s the most important requirement for finding a wedding DJ in Las Vegas: Can you CHOOSE YOUR DJ? Think about this for a moment- if you never even meet or talk to your DJ before your wedding, how comfortable will you feel? The hosting of your wedding and reception is one of the most important things - you’ve met your florist, your jeweler, your dressmaker-  you should INSIST on talking to your DJ. All planning details should also be done DIRECTLY with your DJ - no middlemen! With complete and detailed pre-planning, your wedding day will be much more relaxing - knowing that your DJ has it all under control!

2. Look for legitimate online reviews. Anyone can make up a quote from a bride - but online review sites such as Weddingwire are good at confirming the validity of reviews and can be trusted.

3. Don’t make your decision based on sound system or # of songs in the music library, or how many lights they bring. These are important, and you should make sure your prospective DJ company has suitable equipment/music, etc. — but a DJ company that sells their service based on the size of their speakers or how many lights they bring could be hiding something - like quality of hosting and QUALITY of music choice!

4. Does the DJ have a detailed written planner? Are you able to go  over every detail directly with your DJ? Can you provide a “must-play” list? A “do not play” list that is specific to SONGS, and not just genres or artists? If the company makes you exclude all songs from a specific artist - that’s a sure sign of a lack of ability to pre-plan and execute specific details. Will the DJ buy any music that he doesn’t already own (especially for your special dance songs)?

5. Experience:  Make sure you know the specific experience of your specific DJ (not the company in general!).  And be careful… they say they have 20 years of experience? If they have done 3 weddings per year for 20 years, is that sufficient experience? Look for a balance of Number of weddings and number of years - and disregard “club” experience and corporate experience - weddings require a very specific set of skills and experience so only consider wedding experience!

6. Ceremony: If you are having a ceremony and it’s not adjacent to the reception, MAKE SURE your DJ brings a completely separate sound system! You do not want him to tear down/setup the sound system between the ceremony and reception - that’s unprofessional and it can delay your reception! Both systems should be set up ahead of time so your guests aren’t bothered by load-in and tear-down.

7. Pricing: Very simply - is a cheap price a “good deal” if your DJ doesn’t do a great job? Is it worth it - at ANY price - if you are nervous or not sure what to expect? Once you have found QUALIFIED DJ’s, and it’s time to talk price, then make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples! Does the company charge extra if you need a ceremony sound system? Is there an extra charge for lights? An extra charge for a wireless microphone? A required “gratuity”? Make sure you know what you are paying for and that you aren’t surprised later on.
